For an “outstanding contribution to not only the Manitoba business community, but communities as a whole,” MNP was awarded the Lieutenant Governor Award for business on Friday.
The award was bestowed during the 34th annual Manitoba Chamber of Commerce Business Awards in Winnipeg on Friday.
MNP was founded in Brandon in 1956 and now has more than 4,000 staff, has been ranked among Canada’s largest professional service forms and has listed as one of the nation’s top 50 employers every year since 2009.
“They’re the biggest accounting firm here in Manitoba, and they have a good presence throughout Manitoba in most communities, with Brandon being a big part of that,” Manitoba Chambers of commerce president and CEO Chuck Davidson said on Monday, crediting the company with not only excelling in business, but also giving back to the communities they serve.
“They’re a strong company with strong Manitoba roots and our judging committee and the lieutenant governor thought that it was time for them to be recognized,” he said.
MNP regional managing partner Andrew Stibbard accepted the award on behalf of the company and was not available for comment by press time on Monday.
MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm.
The balance of awards handed out on Friday were to businesses in Steinbach, Winnipeg and Springfield.
The Steinbach Credit Union received the outstanding large business and the inaugural MCC business of the year awards.
Other awards were handed out to Norima Consulting Inc. of Winnipeg (outstanding medium business), Polar Industries Ltd. of Springfield (outstanding small business), Siloam Mission of Winnipeg (outstanding not-for-profit) and Red River College of Winnipeg (long-term achievement).
Canadian Footwear and FootHealth Centres president Brian Scharfstein of Winnipeg received the Lieutenant Governor Award for an individual.
