From healing crystals to meditation tools, Jacobs Trading is seeing a surge in customer demand for metaphysical products.

“When we first started (in 2013), it was just starting to come up,” said co-owner Tegan Jacobs. “Over the last four years it’s definitely really accelerated.”

The company, based in Beausejour, is hosting the Brandon Rock and Mineral Show and Sale until Sunday at the Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre.

A warm, peachy glow could be seen radiating from Himalayan salt lamp section of the sprawling Imperial Ballroom on Friday. Jacobs explained how some believe the Himalayan lamps can help with sleeping disorders and can work like an ionizer. The glow can also help people who feel depressed, sad or anxious.

Another type of lamp available is made of selenite, which emits a soft white light. Selenite is found in the United States, Mexico, South America, Australia and Madagascar — formed in evaporative clay beds and hot springs.

Selenite manifests in ice-like, clear, striated crystals, and is believed to help stabilize emotions and help enhance meditations.

“It’s good for cleansing energy,” Jacobs said. “If you have negative energy, or if you’re feeling really down and depressed, it can help to rid you of that energy.”

The purple amethyst is another popular healing crystal, as it is known to help activate spiritual awareness. According to Jacobs Trading, it also helps calm the mind, and alleviate sadness, grief and negativity.

“I find a lot of people, if they have trouble sleeping or nightmares for children — give them a piece of amethyst, it helps for that,” she said.

Clear quartz is considered the “master healer” and will amplify energy and thought. Rose quartz is said to be the stone of universal love. It restores trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love.

For those interested in learning more about healing crystals, there are kits available: “Introduction to Chakra Healing.”

“It comes with seven chakra stones, so each of these stones correlate to each of your chakras,” Jacobs said. “Inside is a little diagram that shows where they correlate to, what they’re for, and how to utilize them.”

According to Jacob’s Trading, a chakra (Sanscrit word for “wheel”) is like a vortex: a constantly revolving wheel of energy. Spiritual theories say the human body has seven major chakras. They are aligned with the spine and located in the base of the spine, the lower abdomen, the solar plexus, the heart, the throat, the centre of the forehead, and the crown of the head.

“There’s certain stones that correlate to those energy centres,” Jacobs said. “A lot of it is due to different colours, so … pinks and greens, is your heart chakra, so that would be anything to do with love and emotions. Purples and clears are your third eye, or your higher chakra, which is anything more to do with general healing or the spiritual realm.”

There are a variety of ways the crystals can be used. Some choose to hold it during yoga and meditations. Others will carry it with them in their pocket or wallet throughout the day. They can be placed in and around your home or worn as bracelets or necklaces.

“It depends on what works for everyone. Sometimes a tumbled stone, sometimes the worry stone — for me, I like bracelets,” Jacobs said.

The company also offers a selection of “singing bowls” which are used in meditation.

“The sound is said to be very healing, and it’s very relaxing,” she said.

While there is an increased interest in the metaphysical aspect, Jacobs points out that they cater to many different industries, from home decor, jewelry making, kids and collectors.
