Hey there, time traveller!

The Strand Theatre is still coming down by the end of the month, but Brandon University is salvaging some of the historic buildings features.
“The iconic Strand sign is in great shape and I am eager to see how our plans for downtown will reinterpret it in an entirely new context,” Brandon University interim president Steve Robinson said in a release.
“I imagine it will be quite compelling to see the sign all lit it up again alongside the classic movie marquee.”
In addition to the sign and marquee, Brandon University will preserve other features from throughout the structure before it comes tumbling down — including wood joists — and has partnered with The Brandon Sun to store these salvaged components.
“Our deep roots in the city make this a natural fit,” The Brandon Sun publisher Jim Mihaly said in a release.
“We have chronicled the evolution of both Brandon University and the Strand Theatre from inception through today, and we are pleased to step in and play a part in this exciting development for downtown.”
The salvage of these historic elements will begin as early as today, after which Total Demolition has been hired to demolish the structure.
Efforts to clean up and backfill the property could continue into late April.
Area streets will be closed during this work, including 10th Street between Rosser Avenue and Princess Avenue, as well as the southern portion of the laneway between Ninth and 10th Streets.
While parking will not be permitted along the 100 block of 10th Street during demolition, area businesses will remain accessible by foot.
