A cast member from the CBC sketch-comedy show “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” will be paying a visit to Pelican Lake today.

Shaun Majumder will be shooting a sketch in Ninette during the town’s fifth annual ice fishing derby, which is hosted by the Healthy Lake Committee.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” said committee member Charlotte McConnell.

(Submitted/Aaron McKenzie Fraser) “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” star Shaun Majumder will be shooting a sketch today in Ninette during the town’s fifth annual ice fishing derby.

McConnell said the group got a phone call on Wednesday from an assistant at “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” asking about the derby and whether Majumder could come out.

The group received a followup email the next day, confirming Majumder’s arrival for this weekend.

“It’s a pretty big deal to have someone like ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes’ there interviewing us and checking us out,” she said.

The money raised from the ice fishing derby helps support the committee’s work of cleaning up algae in Pelican Lake.

The derby drew 750 people last year, McConnell said, and this year is expected to be similar, depending on the weather.

A spokesperson from Pigeon Row, a communications and content creation firm based out of Toronto and Halifax that works with “This Hour Has 22 Minutes,” confirmed Majumder will be coming to Manitoba to shoot a sketch on ice fishing.

“As with many sketches shot in advance, it’s not guaranteed to make the broadcast,” the spokesperson said. “Those decisions come at the 11th hour sometimes.”

Majumder is a Gemini-award winning actor and comedian whose film and television roles include “Unhitched,” “Cedric the Entertainer Presents,” “24,” “Republic of Doyle” and “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.”

He is also the founder of ‘OME, a not-for-profit organization that helps promote tourism in Majumder’s hometown of Burlington, N.L.
