Hey there, time traveller!

It may have been her first go at the Kiwanis Club bike auction, but Brittinee Long came out smiling as she walked away with a new ride at just $80.
“Steal of a deal,” she said happily with her black bicycle in hand on Saturday.
Long was considering coming back later in the morning to see if she could pick up another bike.
The Kiwanis Club of Brandon held its annual bike auction on Saturday at the Brandon Curling Club, auctioning off more approximately 120 bikes throughout the morning and raising more than $9,000 by the end of the day.
“We appreciate the community’s support in our endeavour here and we hope everybody has a good auction,” said auction chairman Keith Scott.
The vast majority of the bikes were recovered by the Brandon Police Service, either through theft or other means, and held for at least 30 days before being donated to the Kiwanis Club for the auction.
Scott said the money raised will go toward the costs of building a new 24- by 48-foot pavilion in Rideau Park, in preparation for the club’s 100th anniversary next year.
“We bring them here and we appreciate the people’s enthusiastic bidding and we know that the dollars are going to back into a useful project at the end of the day,” Scott said.
Dozens of people came out for Saturday’s auction, pacing in between the rows of bikes on display and taking stock before placing their bids at the auction.
“It’s been going on long enough now that people know what they can come and expect to get here,” Scott said.
“They’re quite often able to get a bike that’s 30 to 50 per cent of store costs and there’s some awfully good bikes in there. You just wonder how they ended up being there, but anyway, such is life.”
Construction of the Kiwanis pavilion is set to begin in mid-May and once built, it will serve as the meeting place for the club’s annual Kar Derby in the summer and be open for the public the rest of the year for weddings, picnics and family outings.
The club had raised $100,000 before the auction to build the pavilion’s initial structure and fundraising efforts will continue throughout the year, as the club tries to raise an additional $25,000 to $30,000 for the second phase of the project, which will include brick work, finishing the trim, plumbing and electrical.
