More details surrounding the violent robbery and shooting that took place near the Trans-Canada Highway last week came out in court on Tuesday as one of the accused was granted bail.

On July 12, police received a call from a truck driver stating he had just been robbed by two women while his semi-truck was parked in the lot between the Petro-Canada and the Petro-Pass Truck Stop on Highland Avenue, Crown attorney Grant Hughes told Brandon provincial court.

Police attended and learned the robbery was related to a shooting incident that had occurred in the same area, where a 17-year-old girl was shot in the face with a shotgun, Hughes said.

The teen is not believed to have been involved in the robbery, Hughes added, but one of the alleged robbers was also shot.

The group allegedly dropped off the wounded girl at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, where staff contacted police, sources have told The Brandon Sun. She was then airlifted to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, where she remains in hospital.

Police learned through an investigation that the truck driver allegedly hired four prostitutes on Thursday night, Hughes said, and took them in his truck to the Petro-Canada parking lot where they “partied” into the night.

The truck driver — who allegedly told police he disliked banks and had approximately $40,000 in cash in his semi-truck — was handing out $100 bills to the women, Hughes said, adding that some of them decided to return the next day to rob him.

According to the truck driver, four people showed up at his semi-truck on Friday, beat him up and robbed him of his wallet, which contained his identification and approximately $13,000 in cash, Hughes said.

Police noted he had two black and blue eyes and was visibly beaten.

None of the accusations have been proven in court and all parties are presumed innocent at this time.

Anna-Marie Cheryl Anderson, 31 — one of four people charged with robbery with violence for her alleged involvement — was granted bail once either a named surety or cash bail was put in place.

Three of her co-accused are expected to appear in court later this month and in September.

Randall Neil McCargar, 61, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent and obtaining sexual services for consideration. He is scheduled to appear in court next week.
