Hey there, time traveller!

Despite the Oct. 24 election bringing in a few new trustees, the Brandon School Division’s elected officials have opted for the status quo in its leadership.
During Monday’s board of trustees meeting — their first since the election — Linda Ross was re-elected into the position of chair and Sherilyn Bambridge was re-elected as vice-chair.
Ross said that she was looking forward to serving another year as chair of the board.
“I’m pleased to be re-elected. I think that there is lots of work for us to do in the coming year, lots of things to look forward to and I’m pleased to have the support of the board to help lead us through this,” Ross said on Monday after the meeting.
A new board always makes things interesting, she said, adding that it will be nice to have some new opinions floating around the table once again.
“I’m sure we are all going to work very well together,” Ross said. “There are exciting times ahead, some of them good, some of them not so good, but they will all be exciting.”
One of the exciting points Ross mentioned was Brandon’s new school, which is slated for completion in 2020.
With her two kids no longer living at home, Ross said that she has more time than she has at other points in her life to dedicate to her position as chair. She also brings experience to the table, as the longest-serving board member with more than 24 years experience. She currently works as an associate professor of psychology at Brandon University.
Bambridge said that she appreciated the support of the other trustees to re-elect her into the position of board vice-chair, knowing the weight the position carries.
“There are things that happen at this board table that impact the lives of many people in Brandon, and I am always very conscious and aware of that,” she said.
“I bring a very balanced view to things. I bring a very thought-out view to things.”
Moving forward, Bambridge said that she was looking forward to working with Ross again in their positions on the board of trustees for the 2018-19 year.
“I feel that Linda and I worked very well last year as chair and vice-chair, and with so many new members on the board, I think (it’s good) at least for the one year to have some consistency and to keep the work moving ahead,” Bambridge said. “There are some very important things that are coming in the next short while and then moving into the future, and so I think we want to make sure that with the election year that the business of the Brandon School Division carries on as smoothly as possible.”
In addition to the chair and vice-chair positions being chosen, the trustees gave their oaths of office and allegiance during Monday’s meeting, administered by Judge Shauna Hewitt-Michta.
Kim Fallis, Lisa Letain, Delvina Kejick and Stephen Montague were the new faces around the table at the meeting, with Ross, Bambridge, Jim Murray, Peter Bartlette and Kevan Sumner all incumbents.
