Sioux Valley Dakota Nation will end its security program this Friday due to funding.
A public notice posted to the Sioux Valley governance website on Monday said the program would be discontinued effective Feb. 15. The notice said it was “unfortunate” that Sioux Valley would be unable to continue funding the program.
“We thank (Sioux Valley Dakota Nation) security for all they have provided,” the notice read. “Please call 911 for all emergencies to dispatch RCMP.”
Chief Jennifer Bone told The Sun Tuesday that she did not have time to comment. No one from the Sioux Valley office was available for comment either.
The Sun asked the Manitoba RCMP if the program’s cancellation changes how police respond to emergency calls in Sioux Valley, but did not receive a response before the end of the day Tuesday.
