Hey there, time traveller!

The Force has awakened in the upcoming Brandon entertainment and art convention with the event receiving its official name.
On Thursday, the Friendly Neighborhood Comic MegaCorp announced that the event has been christened Bran-Con, guest experience director Brandon Fordyce said.
The moniker was carefully selected from a group of names submitted by residents from around Westman.
“We’re very excited about it,” Fordyce said.
Friendly Neighborhood Comic MegaCorp believed that it was important to include Westman residents in as many aspects of the event as possible to share in the excitement of launching it, Fordyce said.
Contests like the naming of the event will help cement the place of Bran-Con in the community while giving people a feeling of ownership of the event.
The winning entry was submitted by Michael Catcheway from Dauphin, who won a VIP package for his entry that includes two-weekend passes, exclusive con swag and access to shows for his submission.
The show is continuing to grow with new artists added to the super team of guests, including Mike Rooth, a Canadian Freelance Art Mercenary, and Marvel artist Joe Rubinstein, along with Saskatchewan-based cosplayer and artist Megii Cosplay. The recruits are joining previously announced guests Dawn McTeigue and Sam de la Rosa.
“We have talent being onboard almost every single day, which is fantastic,” Fordyce said.
Bran-Con is a family-friendly that will feature celebrity guests, cosplayers, comic creators and artists and more. As part of the festivities, they will have autograph and photo opportunities, panels, contests, gaming events and other content.
“It’s coming together so quickly. We’re all very excited for it,” Fordyce said.
Friendly Neighborhood Comic MegaCorp has joined forces with Brandon First along with other local businesses and organizations to help the cement the convention as the hero the city needs.
Bran-Con is an important event and opportunity in Brandon as it can bring a unique experience to the city that can help drive tourism and the economy, Fordyce said, citing how the attendees of the event will likely pay visits to hotels, restaurants and other businesses.
Bran-Con will be the first of many, as conventions are already in the works for 2020 and 2021.
Bran-Con’s inaugural launch is scheduled for Oct. 19 and 20 at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.

“We’re really striving to put Brandon on the map, not only provincially but nationally and internationally,” Fordyce said.
