Enough school supplies for 750 Brandon students were being packed up by United Way of Brandon & District volunteers and staff on Thursday morning.

The Tools for School program has been collecting supplies for needy students since 2006.

Some of these supplies will be delivered to each school in the Brandon School Division today to be distributed when school is back in session next week.

“As always, the community is growing and so is the need,” said Janis Evens, director of operations for United Way in Brandon. “The dollar definitely doesn’t go as far as it used to as one time, but we’re able to supply 750 kids this year with brand-new school supplies, so that’s great, and any donations we get is fabulous.”

Evens wanted to thank individuals from CFB Shilo and Victoria Inn for helping sort materials and crews from Manitoba Public Insurance, who will deliver boxes of supplies today.

She also thanked all of the dropoff locations for the event: Staples, Guild Insurance, MPI, Riverheights Terrace, Kal Tire, TI Management, CFB Shilo, BOB FM, Pure Country, Star FM, Q Country and The Brandon Sun.
