A 63-year-old man injured in Tuesday’s massive house explosion in Brandon has been upgraded to stable condition, acting police media spokesman Const. Adam Potter said Thursday.

The man is still at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, where STARS air ambulance airlifted him Tuesday.

Police have not yet released the man’s name, nor that of a 63-year-old woman who died in the house at 225 Queens Ave. East.

However, a Land Titles search by The Brandon Sun names the registered owners of the house as Robert Keith Hughes and Betty Anne Hughes.

According to the document, the land transfer was registered on Aug. 15.

Neighbours on Wednesday said the couple had moved into the house within the last couple of months. Hughes could be seen doing work on the outside of the house.

The neighbours also said a For Sale sign had been placed on the lawn of the property either Monday or Tuesday.

Brandon police and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are still investigating the cause of the explosion just before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

However, both neighbours and emergency services personnel at the scene noted the odour of natural gas in the area at the time of the explosion.
