A Light Armoured Vehicle 6.0 out of CFB Shilo rolled over on Thursday morning, causing injuries to five soldiers.
The incident occurred during a routine training exercise in the base’s training area about 20 kilometres from the main townsite, according to the base’s public affairs officer, Lori Truscott.
What happened is still under investigation, but it is believed the vehicle drove into a small trench, which tore off one of the front wheels and caused it to roll on its side. Military medical personnel attended to the scene with emergency medical services from Shilo.
Two soldiers were taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre for evaluation and were later released. The remaining three soldiers were treated for minor injuries at the Shilo Medical Clinic and released. All five soldiers involved were from the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.
According to the website of manufacturer General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, the LAV 6 is an eight-wheeled combat vehicle armed with a 25mm cannon first deployed with the Canadian Forces in Latvia in 2017.
