Hey there, time traveller!

The Sportsplex roof is due to be resurfaced in 2022, but the city is looking into a more extensive retrofitting of it instead.
A tender posted on the city’s website on Dec. 14 calls for proposals for a design that will take into account the different levels of the roof and the facility’s HVAC needs while being economical and alleviating the need for frequent repairs.
One suggestion in the attached document proposes that a sloped metal roof be installed over the existing roof.
While the submission period for the tender ends on Jan. 13, 2021, the contract will not be awarded until the city’s 2021 financial plan is approved by Brandon City Council. The document calls for all construction be completed by Sept. 30, 2021.
Because of COVID-19, interested parties will not be able to perform a site visit but instead watch a video walkthrough of the existing roof.
This tender comes after the city awarded two tenders for repairs to the Sportsplex roof earlier this year, one in June and the other in October.
The facility has needed other repairs this year as well. The Sportsplex pool is currently closed until at least March 2021 so that problems with its water, air circulation and drainage systems can be fixed.
In September, spot repairs were done on the Sportsplex track to fix deficiencies found after its 2016 total resurfacing.
