A Brandon MLA has introduced a bill in the Manitoba legislature that would require leaders of provincial political parties to disclose 20 years of their past income tax returns.
Brandon East Progressive Conservative MLA Len Isleifson’s Bill 237 would amend the provincial Elections Act to make the disclosure of 20 years of income, taxes paid and tax notices by political leaders mandatory.
“Manitobans have the right to know the financial status of those in leadership positions in our province,” Isleifson stated in a media release. “This legislation will enhance transparency and accountability by requiring proactive disclosure of personal financial information for political party leaders.”
