It has been a long time coming, but Brandon now has its own microbrewery.
Black Wheat Brewing officially opened its doors to thirsty Brandonites on Friday, marking a return to the Wheat City’s brewing tradition.
The 10th Street brewery previously released two beers, “Empire Ale,” a west coast IPA, and “Reality Czech,” a Czech-style pale lager, in December 2021 by delivery.
Brewmaster Umber Awasthi came to Canada from India as an international student and now creates beer.
The brewery also offers “Great Scott!” a cream ale, and “Blue Hills Brew,” a blueberry ale.
Brandon previously had a brewery, the Empire Brewing Company, but it closed in the 1930s.
