A spring drug bust netted a Brandon police officer provincial recognition for his work spearheading the investigation.
Sgt. Jason Dupuis was awarded the Excellence in Law Enforcement Medal for his role in leading Project Brazen by the Manitoba Chiefs of Police.
In May, police announced they had busted a “sophisticated and prolific” group of people involved in importing and selling cocaine and other drugs in the city and surrounding area.
The 16-month investigation culminated in several search warrants and police seized approximately $350,000 worth of cocaine and $70,000 in cash.
The Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP also helped in the investigation.
“At the end of the day, it was an astronomical amount of work … and it was successful in the end,” he said.
Normally, an investigation the size of Project Brazen would be done jointly with the RCMP, but Dupuis said BPS took the lead.
“It’s humbling but yet I was also very honoured. There’s so many men and women [at the Brandon Police Service] who do such great things.”
Eleven people were arrested in the investigation. The charges are still making their way through the court system.
