The Rolling River School Division decided to transition one Forrest Elementary Grade 6 cohort from in-person instruction to remote learning due to three recently uncovered COVID-19 cases.
Interim Supt. Jason Cline told the Sun on Friday the class will remain in remote learning at least until next Friday, and the division will monitor the situation to decide if further steps are required.
The Sun also uncovered a couple of public health letters to parents circulating online that are dated Dec. 9 and reference recent COVID exposures at Forrest Elementary on Dec. 6-7.
While one of these letters directly points to a Grade 6 class, the other references at least one additional confirmed case on “Bus F3” during that same time frame.
Another letter, dated Dec. 8, references at least one confirmed case of COVID in a Grade 5 class, where the individual(s) in question may have been infectious on Dec. 6.
Cline confirmed the authenticity of these public health notices via email.
According to the province’s COVID tacking map for K-12 schools, the only other RRSD school that is enduring a major COVID exposure, in the two weeks prior to Dec. 7, is Douglas Elementary, with one case.
In terms of major exposures in the Westman region overall, the province declared on Wednesday that a Grade 4 outbreak at J.R. Reid School in the Brandon School Division was officially over.
Otherwise, the province has identified a total of 1,823 cases of COVID-19 in K-12 schools since the academic year began on Sept. 7.
