The City of Brandon announced Thursday its green cart organic recycling program will start for the year the week of April 19-22.
Collection days for the green carts will be the same as household garbage and recycling pickup.
Residents are asked to have their cart out for collection no later than 6 a.m. on their scheduled day with only compostable plastic bags or kraft paper bags as liners.
It’s also advised that green carts be rinsed off regularly to avoid residues and odours.
A full list of items eligible to be disposed of in green carts can be found on the city’s website.
In 2021, the green cart program diverted almonst 2,000 tonnes of waste from the landfill, according to the city. There are more than 9,000 participants in the program. Register online or call 204-729-2281.
