ALEXANDER — A Canadian Pacific Railway locomotive was thrown off the tracks early Tuesday morning near Alexander.
No one was injured in the incident, officials say.
The CP train carrying intermodal containers was travelling west around 40 kilometres per hour at 2:10 a.m. when the derailment occurred.
High winds were reported in the area at the time of the accident, according to a report submitted to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
While the safety board couldn’t disclose the type of cargo that CP was transporting, a government representative confirmed that no dangerous goods were involved.
When the Sun attended the scene of the accident around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, rail workers could be seen attempting to clear the tracks, with the work site relegating eastbound Trans-Canada Highway traffic to a single lane.
CP reopened the rail line later that morning after completing all necessary repairs and safety inspections.
