Woman dead following motorcycle crash

Blue Hills RCMP are investigating a motorcycle collision in the RM of Elton Wednesday morning that resulted in the death of a 79-year-old woman from Ontario.

The RCMP, alongside the Rivers Police Service, received a report of the accident around 10:05 a.m. and responded to the site of the crash on Road 65 North, two kilometres west of Provincial Road 270.

Officers who attended the scene determined that two seniors were travelling eastbound on a motorcycle and lost control of the vehicle due to the road being slick with rain.

The operator of the vehicle, a 73-year-old man from Toronto, was thrown from his seat and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

However, the passenger of the motorcycle, a 79-year-old woman also from Toronto, succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Both the operator and the passenger were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Blue Hills RCMP continue to investigate this incident alongside a forensic collision reconstructionist.

Homeowner assaulted

Police arrested two 17-year-old males earlier this week for their alleged role in an assault in the city’s downtown core.

Police were called to the 300 block of Fourth Street Wednesday around 10:45 p.m., after hearing that a group of youths had gathered at a residence, broke a window and assaulted the homeowner.

Since the identity of the suspects was known to the victim, the 17-year-old male allegedly responsible for the assault was later located and arrested.

He was eventually released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 25 to face an assault charge.

A second 17-year-old connected to the incident was also located and arrested. He was in breach of a court-imposed curfew that stated he can’t be in public between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. He is also scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 25 for failing to comply with a probation order.

Woman pleads guilty

Police detained a 22-year-old woman Wednesday morning for brandishing a six-inch knife in the 100 block of Seventh Street.

After being flagged down by a citizen around 10 a.m., police observed the woman holding the weapon in an “aggressive stance,” although she dropped the knife when directed.

She was arrested, lodged at Brandon Police Service headquarters and appeared in court Thursday morning over the phone.

The woman pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public and was given a nine-month conditional discharge, which stipulates that she can’t own any weapons throughout this time.

Wanted by police

The Brandon Police Service is looking for Dustin Rose, 41, who is wanted for breaching a conditional sentence order that stated he must abide by a 24-hour curfew.

An off-duty police officer spotted Rose outside his residence on Aug. 18, leading on-duty police to go the address a short time later.

Police issued an arrest warrant after Rose couldn’t be located.

Anyone with information about Rose’s current whereabouts is asked to contact Brandon Crime Stoppers by calling 204-727-TIPS (8477), visiting brandoncrimestoppers.com or by texting BCSTIP and your message to CRIMES (274637).

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,000 cash for information that leads to the solution of a crime.

Theft suspects sought

Brandon police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating two individuals who are wanted for committing theft under $5,000 last month.

On July 27, the Brandon Police Service received a report of a vehicle being entered and property being stolen, including a purse and a passport.

On Aug. 3, it was reported to police that the property had been discarded at a business the week before, with video surveillance capturing footage of the suspects who were in possession of the stolen property.

The first suspect is described as a man wearing a black Adidas jacket, blue jeans, black hat and sunglasses. The second suspect is an older, heavier-set woman with grey hair who was wearing a black shirt at the time.

Anyone with information about the suspects’ current whereabouts is being asked to contact Brandon Crime Stoppers by calling 204-727-TIPS (8477), visiting brandoncrimestoppers.com or by texting BCSTIP and your message to CRIMES (274637).
