Pedestrian dies after struck by car
The Dauphin RCMP is investigating a Wednesday night vehicle-pedestrian collision that resulted in the death of a young man.
Police received a report of the accident around 10:10 p.m. and attended the scene on Highway 5 near Road 115 West (approximately seven kilometres west of Dauphin).
An initial investigation determined that the man, who was in his mid- to late 20s, was walking in the eastbound lane of Highway 5 when he was struck by a vehicle that was heading east.
The driver of the vehicle, a 66-year-old man from Neepawa, immediately pulled over, called 911 and waited for first responders to arrive.
However, the unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of Thursday afternoon, police were still attempting to identify the deceased, who they described as Indigenous.
They ask anyone with information about him to contact the Dauphin RCMP (204-622-5050), or Manitoba Crime Stoppers anonymously by calling 1-800-222-8477, visiting manitobacrimestoppers.com or texting “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).
The Dauphin RCMP continue to investigate with the aid of a forensic collision reconstructionist.

No injuries were reported, and damage to the home appears to be contained to its exterior siding.
An initial investigation indicates the cause of the fire may have been accidental.
