The Brandon Road Rebels hosted its annual fall barbecue fundraiser and car show at Dinsdale Park on Sunday, an event that attracted more than 100 registered vehicles and generated $2,833 for the Elspeth Reid Family Resource Centre.

Elspeth Reid co-ordinator Lisa Ramsay told the Sun afterward that the money raised on Sunday will be used to finance transportation capacity and fund the centre’s Friday play groups program.

The resource centre has been providing support to Westman families for almost four decades, with a current slate of programming that includes daycare, youth engagement, children’s therapy and group housing.

The Road Rebels have been working alongside Elspeth Reid since 2009, raising around $40,000 for the centre through barbecues and other fundraisers, according to president Dave Burba.

“We value this partnership and know that they too believe that all families should have access to support when needed,” Ramsay wrote in an email to the Sun on Wednesday.

Burba admits that overall fundraising this year has been much lower than average due to past COVID-19 restrictions, which encouraged Road Rebels members to cancel their 2022 winter social.

However, Burba is happy to announce that his club’s partnership with Elspeth Reid will continue this year with an “All About Cool Cars” event at the centre (255 Ninth St.) from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The event will feature car-themed activities for kids and hands-on automotive tutorials for parents, including how to properly change a tire and conduct basic maintenance.
