A Brandon heavy-truck-and-trailer dealership is driven to help those in need.

Transolutions Truck Centres’ Fill the Freightliner is making a return trip, the second time the business’ local branch has hosted the donation drive in the Wheat City.

Transolutions has run a successful Fill the Freightliner event in Winnipeg for 10 years.

“We thought, ‘You know what? There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be doing this in Brandon as well,’” said Dwayne Stone, general manager of Transolutions’ Brandon branch.

On Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the dealership will park its freight truck in the parking lot of Montana’s restaurant at the Corral Centre, located at 820 18th St. North.

The goal is to fill the truck — which is about 30 feet long, and 10 feet wide and high — with donated items that will help under-resourced people.

“You can put a lot of stuff in there, for sure,” Stone said.

Brandon and Westman residents are asked to drop off non-perishable wholesome foods, hygiene products, baby items and cleaning supplies. And, just in time for colder weather, organizers are accepting new or gently used clothes, blankets and similar items. Baby food and women’s hygiene products are especially in demand, Stone said.

As with the first Brandon drive, the items will be given to the Brandon Bear Clan and Samaritan House Ministries for distribution to those in need. Cash donations will be accepted, too.

Last year’s effort raised $6,000 in cash, and five pallets full of goods.

Those who can’t make it to the Oct. 1 event can arrange for drop-offs with Transolutions, before and after the event, by calling 204-726-0000.
