Applications for the Manitoba government’s Food Security Fund opened on Monday.

Announced earlier this month, the $1.75-million fund was touted as a way to help non-profit community organizations offset the inflation and the rising cost of food.

Until Oct. 10, eligible organizations can apply for grants from the fund up to a maximum of $225,000.

To qualify, an organization must be a legally incorporated non-profit, have a primary mandate of tackling food insecurity or have a food security initiative among its programming, have at least two years of experience with food insecurity initiatives and experience building partnerships with other non-profits and private sector organizations.
