Senior dies after collision
An 80-year-old man who was struck by a motorist earlier this month has succumbed to his injuries, according to a Thursday media release from Brandon Police Service.
BPS was informed of the 80-year-old’s death Tuesday and proceeded to arrest the 67-year-old man responsible for striking him the following day.
The incident took place around 10 a.m. Oct. 4 within the 1900 block of Richmond Avenue. A motorist was heading westbound in his Ford F-150 pickup truck and struck the senior as he was using a crosswalk.
The driver failed to remain at the scene of the collision, but was later located and arrested by police at 4:15 p.m.
Following news of the victim’s death, the driver was charged with failing to remain at an accident scene causing death and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 12.
Assault, mischief at a business
Brandon police arrested two men Wednesday after they allegedly caused a ruckus at a local business earlier this month that resulted in assault and destruction of property.
The incident took place Oct. 2 at a business located in the 1500 block of 18th Street when the two suspects entered the store and got into an argument with one of the employees.
While the 21-year-old man allegedly punched the employee, his 56-year-old companion allegedly proceeded to damage a store display.
The victim did not require any medical attention.
Police eventually located and arrested the 21-year-old Wednesday and charged him with assault. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 5.
The 56-year-old involved in the case was also arrested Wednesday and is charged with uttering threats and causing mischief under $5,000. His court date is slate for Dec. 12.
