Hey there, time traveller!

Assiniboine Community College and S.E.L. Housing Inc., a ready-to-move home builder, are working together to provide more hands-on education opportunities for students studying construction trades at the school.
The college and the home building company have signed a memorandum of understanding that will see students in the carpentry, electrical and plumbing trades work together to build a single-family home at the Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology at the college’s North Hill campus in Brandon.
The partnership between the college and S.E.L. Housing Inc. is a valuable one that will enrich students’ learning experience, said Kevin Poirier, dean of trades at Assiniboine.
“This initiative will allow students to put their newly acquired skills to practise in a real-world application under the guidance of journey-person instructors.”
S.E.L. Housing Inc., which is a sister company of South End Lumber Timber Mart, will provide house plans and building supplies for the project, and any labour performed by Assiniboine students will be appraised. The company will also donate to a fund set up to support trade programs at the college.
The housing company is proud to partner with the college, said Scott Norosky, president of S.E.L. Housing Inc.
“Being able to provide a project that would enable students to gain valuable hands-on experience while also giving back to the community was an easy decision for us.”
Once the trade programs conclude in the spring, the project will be completed by S.E.L. Housing.
