Hey there, time traveller!

The only candidate to express interest in replacing Brandon West MLA Reg Helwer has withdrawn from the race.
Speaking to the Sun on Wednesday, Jordan Sisson said he decided to put his political aspirations on hold so he can focus on spending more time with his five children.
“I’ve spent the last few years on the road serving the government and politics at large,” Sisson said. “I’ve been home for the better part of a month and it really gave me an opportunity to reflect. I’ve got an extremely young family … being able to wake up at home every morning and be a part of that showed not only how much they need me, but that I really need them.”
Sisson said, however, he still intends to run for election someday. In the meantime, he will do his best to help the party get re-elected this year.
In an email, Progressive Conservative Party CEO Michele Halverson said no date has been set for a nomination meeting for Brandon West.
The constituency encompasses the city of Brandon south of the Assiniboine River and west of 18th Street.
No other candidates have come forward publicly to seek the nomination yet.
Sisson was the campaign manager for Premier Heather Stefanson’s successful leadership bid for the party leadership and served as her chief of staff for a short time after she was sworn into office in late 2021.
Brandon is sure to see at least two new MLAs in the next provincial election, with both Helwer as well as Spruce Woods MLA Cliff Cullen having announced they would not be seeking re-election.
Helwer has represented his constituency since 2011, while Cullen has been in office since 2004.
Brandon East MLA Len Isleifson has been nominated to seek re-election for the Tories.
Brandon West has been a Progressive Conservative stronghold since it was created in 1966, with the NDP managing to steal it away from 1981 to 1982 under Henry Carroll and from 1999 to 2007 under former cabinet minister Steve Smith.
Carroll also served as MLA for Brandon West as an independent from 1982-85.
Under Manitoba’s fixed-term elections legislation, the next provincial election must take place on or before Oct. 3.
