The Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium was buzzing on Saturday morning with nervous tension, excited voices, classical music and the soft steps of ballet shoes during the final day of dance performances for the Brandon Festival of the Arts.
The annual festival has staged a triumphant return following the pandemic, and the energy onstage was palpable as dozens of dance groups — from young kids to teens to adults — performed in front of adjudicators Natalie Sweazey and Nicole Spinola.
Dance performances took place all of last week at the WMCA, with the final Dance Showcase performances held on Saturday evening, which included the adjudicators’ choice performances and the presentation of dance scholarships and trophies.
The festival now moves into instrumental performances, starting with junior and intermediate piano performances on Thursday at Knox United Church. Senior piano performances will begin on Friday at St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
