Pacific Avenue section closing for construction

Starting Monday, the City of Brandon will shut down a small section of Pacific Avenue for many months to allow the ongoing expansion of the Daly Overpass.

According to a Thursday news release from the city, Pacific Avenue between 15th and 18th streets will be closed until July, although this timeline could change.

Drivers can still use Rosser or Princess Avenues to access 18th Street. The city will also set up detour signs to assist affected businesses and residences.

The Daly Overpass construction project began April 2021 with the demolition of the International Harvester Building, which was destroyed to expand the aging three-lane structure into a four-lane bridge.

This design will also include new on- and off-ramps to connect 18th Street with Pacific Avenue, new pathways and some sidewalk/pavement upgrades.

Westman-based Russell Redi-Mix Concrete began construction — including piling, sewer and water works — in February 2022.

Since then, there have been detours and traffic changes in downtown Brandon, which are expected to continue until the Daly Overpass project is completed sometime in summer of 2024.

Project updates are available by visiting brandon.ca/daly-overpass. Questions and comments about the project can also be directed to dalyoverpass@gov.mb.ca.
