Members of the municipal government and the Manitoba Urban Forest Council came together this past weekend to celebrate Brandon Arbor Day, where residents got to learn about how to protect, maintain and enhance trees within a city environment.
Using the Keystone Centre’s Patmore Forest as its base of operations, organizers put together a variety of events on Saturday that showcased the proper way to cultivate this kind of eco diversity through tree planting workshops, tree climbing demonstrations and arboriculture equipment displays.
Organizers also provided broader family entertainment throughout the morning and afternoon, such as face-painting for kids and a musical performance from members of Mecca Productions.

Professional arborist Shane Freeman told the Sun that the Manitoba Urban Forest Council is hoping to grow this celebration every year, with Brandon Arbor Day having just been officially established by the city government last year.
