Attempted arson
Local police are looking for more information about a fire that was set on the back steps of Child and Family Service’s 10th Street location.
According to police, a broken glass bottle that contained liquid accelerant was found at the scene. Police responded on Tuesday shortly after 10 p.m. and say that the fire was contained to a small area on the outdoor stairs and caused minimal damage.
A Sun reporter visited the scene and observed no damage to the building or stairs.
CFS communications and public relations specialist Surien Fourie told the Sun that CFS learned of the fire after police notified the organization. Fourie said that CFS does not believe that the location was targeted. Fourie said that the organization doesn’t have concerns for staff safety at this time.
BPS are asking anyone with information about the fire to contact them at 204-729-2345.
Employee falls
An employee who fell about 34 feet from a scaffolding area at Masterfeeds early Wednesday morning was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Around 4 a.m., police responded with Brandon Fire and Emergency Services to a report of an employee who fell in the scaffolding area at the 17th Street East business.
Police say that the employee had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
As there did not appear to be any criminality involved in the incident, police are no longer involved in the investigation.
The business falls under federal jurisdiction, so the investigation into the accident will be conducted in accordance with the Canada Labour Code.
The Employment and Social Development Canada department office told the Sun that at the time of publication it had not received a notification of the incident.
Federally regulated employers must report serious injuries and fatalities to the department’s Labour Program within 24 hours.
Employers must also submit written investigation reports to the Labour Program for all temporary and permanent disabling injuries within 14 days.
When the Labour Program receives an employer’s report of a hazardous occurrence, it will determine whether an investigation by the Labour Program is warranted, the department said.
Assault arrest
A 25-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly punching a man in May.
On Tuesday, police received a report of an assault that occurred in a home on May 11. An investigation revealed that the woman punched the man and police arrested her that day.
The man did not require medical attention.
The woman will appear in court on Aug. 17 on a charge of domestic assault.
