Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, with events scheduled all around Brandon.
Here is a brief roundup of some of the events taking place:
• The main celebration in Brandon will take place at the Riverbank Discovery Centre from noon to 8 p.m. Activities include artistic performances, dancing, children’s games, displays, crafting and bannock demonstrations.
• The Men’s Resource Centre of Brandon is hosting a talent show and feast from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Princess Park.
• Sioux Valley Dakota Nation is reopening the Grand Valley Campground in a celebration starting at 2 p.m. The event will feature live performances by C-Weed, Tracey Bone and the Tribal Road Band, the Roulette Band, food, games and a fireworks display at the end of the night.
• The Brandon University Teachings House will be holding a sacred fire at the Turtle Fire ceremonial fire pit in the campus courtyard from 10 a.m. to noon.
