Brandon School Division’s graduation week officially kicked off on Monday with a ceremony that celebrated Vincent Massey High School’s Class of 2023.

This ceremony took place at the Keystone Centre and featured around 230 graduates, who were all decked out in royal purple robes and their own personal accoutrements.

While enduring the summer heat underneath these robes was difficult for some, the grads appeared to be in good spirits throughout the three-hour affair, especially with their friends and family cheering them on from the stands of the Westoba Place arena.

Valedictorian James Li capped off the event by discussing the unique obstacles that he and his classmates had to overcome to get to this point, since every single academic year in their high school careers were touched by the COVID-19 pandemic.

BSD’s grad week will continue with ceremonies celebrating students from École secondaire Neelin High School (today at Brandon University’s Healthy Living Centre), Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School (Wednesday at the Keystone Centre) and Prairie Hope High School (Thursday at The Firehall event venue).
