Tentative Hydro deal struck
Strike action planned by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2034 has been put on hold after Manitoba Hydro announced late Wednesday evening it had reached a tentative agreement with the union.
A release sent out by Manitoba Hydro said that terms of the deal would not be disclosed, but that IBEW was recommending its members accept the deal.
Next week will see the approximately 2,300 union members, who started job action on June 30, hold a ratification vote.
IBEW did not response to a request for comment on Thursday.
Stolen tools and generator
A 40-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stealing tools and a generator from two businesses earlier this month.
Police say that the man was identified as a suspect in two thefts from two different businesses on July 14.
On that day, a tool set valued at $700 was stolen from one business. A generator valued at $550 was stolen from the second business.
He was charged with theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on Sept. 18.

Missing teen found
Swan River RCMP report that Abigail Sinclair has been located safe.
The 17-year-old from Wuskwi Sipik First Nation was reported missing on July 10.
RCMP had asked for the public’s assistance in locating the teen on July 19.
Random bear spray attacks in Thompson
A Thompson man is in police custody after allegedly spraying a 62-year-old woman with bear spray during an unprovoked attack.
Mounties found the victim suffering from an assault near Thompson Drive around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP said in a release.
Investigators learned she was targeted at random by a man who bear-sprayed her before running away. Shortly after, officers responded to reports of a similar assault, this time involving a 25-year-old man.
The victim in the second attack provided information that assisted officers in arresting a suspect, RCMP said.
A 20-year-old man from Lac Brochet is facing several charges, including assault with a weapon, uttering threats and failure to comply. He remains in custody.
