Brandon’s inaugural Salamander Summer Music Festival officially kicked off at Rideau Park on Friday night with performances from DJ Red, DJ Dirt, Anastasia Jane, Kilusan and local drag performers from the House of Hex.
Friday’s show also gave local music lovers a closer look at the Salamander festival grounds inside Rideau Park, which include some food trucks, a mocktail lounge, local artisan booths and a kids area.
The festival is scheduled to run throughout the weekend, with appearances from Manitoba artists such as Young Pixels, Julianna Moore, Zach Weston/Beauty and The Beard, Lyon I, Full Flannel Jacket, the Michelle Boudreau Band and headliner Vertigo/Matt Cory Band on Saturday.
DJ Red lays down some sick beats at Rideau Park to officially kick off the inaugural Salamander Summer Music Festival on Friday evening. The event is scheduled to run all weekend and feature more than a dozen other Manitoba artists.
The festival’s final day, Sunday, will feature acts such as Flamenco on the Prairies, The Chris Ghidoni Band, Mitchell Makoons, Jan Ek and Shameless Folk, with Winnipeg-based alternative rock group Attica Riots scheduled to close out the show.
Salamander Fest organizers named the event after the tiny amphibian due to its association with qualities like rebirth and immortality, with the hope of building a brand-new local attraction coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
