After taking a detour to the Riverbank Discovery Centre last fall, the Brandon Humane Society’s Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon returned to Kin Park on Sunday morning, setting the stage for the no-kill shelter’s largest recurring fundraising event.
Just like in years past, dozens of local dog lovers converged on this communal green space to drop off their pledges and take part in a communal walk, which involved a roughly four-kilometre loop between First Street and 18th Street.
Participants were then treated to some free coffee, pastries and barbecue upon their return.

While shelter manager Tracy Munn couldn’t supply the Sun with a finalized dollar figure by Monday afternoon, she said that this year’s pledges exceeded the 2022 total of around $40,000.
Munn previously told the Sun that the money raised during their Wag-A-Tail events are usually earmarked to finance the Humane Society’s day-to-day operations, like paying for important surgeries, food costs, general vet care and building maintenance for its headquarters located at 2200 17th St. East.
Sunday marked the Humane Society’s 20th Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon event, which gave Munn and her staff the chance to celebrate how much community support they’ve cultivated over the past two decades.
“I think the first year we made $19,000, and slowly it’s grown and grown,” she said last week.
