Seven brave individuals put their pride and their digestive systems on the line during Westman Communication Group’s first-ever Celebrity Hot Wings Challenge, which took place at the Keystone Centre grounds Saturday during Food Truck Warz.
The competitors were tasked with eating 10 spicy chicken wings in under five minutes, with WCG handing out two $50 Visa gift cards for whoever managed to 1) finish their meal first and 2) best WCG president Bud Keys in the contest.
While the field was stacked with some formidable players, including former NHL-er Colby Robak and local golf pro Austin Dobrescu, personal trainer Rene Lariviere blew his opponents out of the water by devouring his wings in around 55 seconds.
Talking to the Sun immediately afterward, Lariviere was still suffering from the effects of the wings, which measured around 750,000 on the Scoville scale.
But the personal trainer was determined to enjoy the remainder of his time sampling different types of cuisine at this year’s Food Truck Warz event, with this hot wing eating competition being a simple bump in the road.
“I had a great time. It was fun,” Lariviere said.
WCG’s inaugural Celebrity Hot Wings Challenge also featured radio personality Frank McGwire, local Sobeys franchise owner Ryan Hackett and audience participant Jeff Kulman.
