BRANDON UNIVERSITY

● Brandon University will be the site of a series of debates this week for the Oct. 3 provincial election. On Tuesday, Brandon East candidates will debate at 6 p.m., followed by the Brandon West debate at 7:30 p.m. A debate for Spruce Woods candidates will take place on Wednesday, beginning at 7 p.m. All three debates will take place in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall in the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building.

● Melissa Adler of the University of Manitoba will deliver the talk My Queer Manitoba, in Books on Thursday at 7 p.m., in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. Presented by Gender and Women’s Studies at BU, Adler will talk from the perspective of a queer single mom, scholar and former librarian on the necessity of 2SLGBTQIA+ books to their readers and why they belong in school and public libraries.

● The Science Seminar Series begins on Friday, Sept. 22 as Michael Charette talks about one of the causes of Bowen-Conradi Syndrome in the season-opening event. The talk will take place in Room 4-47 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre, beginning at 2:30 p.m., and will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.

● Three close friends who have never left the outskirts of Dublin get the journey of a lifetime in The Miracle Club, showing this weekend at the Evans Theatre. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Admission is $6.

● The Bobcats soccer teams start this weekend on the road, visiting Providence University College on Saturday, before returning home to the Healthy Living Centre to host the Assiniboine Community College Cougars on Sunday. Sunday’s games start at 1 p.m. for the women, followed by the men at 3:15 p.m.

● The Block ’N Roll co-ed volleyball tournament returns to the Healthy Living Centre this December. The tournament will take place on Dec. 1-2, and the cost to register is $250 per team. More details are available at HealthyLivingCentre.ca.

● The college’s annual Advancement Dinner will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Victoria Inn. The event celebrates the outstanding achievements of this year’s alumni award recipients, Chuck Judd, Karen MacDonald, Akaps Mweemba, Pam Nightingale, Kailan Dreolini and Andrew Blair. ● The ACCSA Campaigns and Actions Committee will be putting on the first EDI Movie Night of the school year on Sept. 14. This event will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lecture theatre (Room 180, Victoria Ave. E campus). The first film to be screened is ‘Precious’, as the theme of this EDI Movie Night is centered around the topic of consent. Additionally, SERC (Sexuality Education Resource Centre) will be doing a quick presentation from 5 to 5:30 p.m., prior to the movie screening.

● The Cougars Women’s hockey team will be holding tryouts on Sept. 19 and 21. Find out more about times and locations at accstudents.com/events or assiniboine.net/athletics.

● The ACCSA regularly hosts sexual health clinics at the Victoria Avenue East campus. The next clinic will run Sept. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Public health nurses will be onsite to provide health information, naloxone training, and STI testing services.
