NO HOLIDAY TRAIN IN BRANDON THIS YEAR

Although Brandon won’t be getting a visit from the CP Holiday Train this year, it will make stops in Neepawa, Minnedosa and Shoal Lake as part of its 25th season.

So far, the train has raised more than $22.5 million and has collected five million pounds of food in the 25 years it has been running. This year, the spectacle will include a light display and performances from Anyway Gang, a band made up of Canadian talent, including Dave Monks, Sam Roberts, Menno Versteeg and Chris Murphy.

The train will be making a stop in Neepawa at the CP Railway Station between Mountain and Currie Avenue from 2:35-3:15 p.m. on Dec. 4. That same day, it’ll be in Minnedosa west of the CP Station on the north side of the rail yard at 30-2nd Avenue Northwest from 4-4:45 p.m. It will then stop in Shoal Lake at the gravel lot adjacent to the grain elevator on North Railway Avenue from 7:15-8 p.m.

SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATE FORUM TONIGHT

Tonight is the night for residents of communities in the Brandon School Division to learn more about the people vying to be the next members of the board of trustees.

All 10 candidates have been invited to Brandon University’s Evans Theatre from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for a forum discussion co-hosted by the Brandon Sun, the Brandon Teachers’ Association, CUPE Local 737, BU and Westman Communications group.

The candidates are competing for two positions left vacant by resignations earlier this year, one in the school division’s urban Ward 1 — comprising the City of Brandon — and another in the rural Ward 2 — comprising all communities in the school division outside Brandon itself. Election day is Oct. 25.

The event is free and open to the general public. Parking at BU will be free for the event.

The forum will also be broadcast live on WCGtv and livestreamed on the WCGtv website. The Brandon Sun will have coverage of the event in Friday’s paper and online at brandonsun.com.

IMPAIRED DRIVING COLLISION

A 23-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving on Monday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., police responded to a report of a driver who allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign before hitting another vehicle and driving the wrong way on Princess Avenue.

Police stopped the vehicle in the 100 block of 13th Street and arrested the 23-year-old driver.

The driver provided samples of his breath that were reported to be more than three times the legal limit. He was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while ability impaired, driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood and prohibited driving. He was also supposed to appear in court of King’s Bench that same day, so he was also charged with failing to attend court.

INTOXICATED TEENS ARRESTED

Two youth have been charged after police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Monday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., police learned that the disturbance was caused by a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly intoxicated. As police were attempting to arrest the boy, an intoxicated 13-year-old girl allegedly tried to prevent his arrest by physically interfering.

Both youth were arrested and lodged at the police station until sober. The boy will be fined under the LGCCA for consuming underage, while the girl will appear in court on Jan. 16, 2024 on a charge of obstructing a peace officer.
