TODAY

• 10:15 to 11 a.m. — Story and Song Circle with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library. Preschoolers can join Michelle for stories, songs and crafts. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

• 5:30 p.m. — Everyone is welcome to join in Brandon’s annual Take Back the Night march! A rally will kick off the event at 5:30 p.m. in Princess Park with march to follow at 6 p.m. Marchers will head to Brandon University for refreshments including hot chocolate and cookies.

• 7 p.m. — The Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team takes on the University of Northern British Columbia at the Healthy Living Centre (2010 Louise Ave.).

FRIDAY

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

• 10 a.m. — Parkinson Social Group, a newly formed group, gathers monthly for socialization and support. We welcome anyone living with Parkinsons, care partners, family and friends. • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Premier Truck Group Brandon is pleased to announce the third annual community food drive for Brandon and Westman with the “Fill the Freightliner” event in the parking lot of Montana’s Restaurant in the Corral Centre. Donations will go to Global Market Brandon, Community Health and Housing Association and the Samaritan House. Some items needed: infant formulas, diapers and pull-ups; blankets, bedsheets, towels, hygiene products, parkas, toques and mitts, new socks and underwear, sleeping bags, healthy soups and stews, whole grain pasta, juices and water, canned fish, meat, beans and vegetables, prepackaged snacks etc. Cash donations accepted and Premier will match up to $5,000. • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Join Friends of Riding Mountain National Park for the ninth annual Creepy Hollow Hauntings at the Friends Learning Centre (154 Columbine St. ,Wasagaming). • 1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club on Wednesdays for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided and all levels of skill are welcome. No registration is required.

• Oct. 25-28 — Manitoba Ag Ex, the largest all-breeds cattle show in Manitoba, attracts exhibitors and visitors from across the Prairies to the Keystone Centre. This year celebrates the 50th year and will be host to five national shows. Manitoba Ag Ex is family friendly and there is no charge for admission. Oct. 25 features “MooMania!” which provides a hands-on opportunity for students in grades 3, 4 and 5 to learn about the life of a cow, the benefits of beef, tour of the cattle barns and a chance to participate in a mock cattle show and live auction. MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Winter hours: 1 to 4 p.m., seven days a week. The museum will remain open until Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, with a free open house, and reopen on April 1, 2024 for the 100th anniversary of the RCAF (weather permitting). The museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial is open to the public from sunrise to sundown. For more information, call the museum at 204-727-2444.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Returning this fall is Daly After Dark Exhibit and Candlelight Tours until Nov. 4. Candlelight tours are ticketed events on Oct. 20, 25, 27 and 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are available online through Eventbrite. The exhibit and candlelight tours are sponsored by Brockie Donovan and Westman Communications Group. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — In September 2023, we opened our Second World War vehicle display. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. The exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. “Let Them Fly” is in the Community Gallery until Nov. 4 and “Oneirophyte,” featuring five digital artists from Manitoba, is in the Main Gallery until Nov. 11. Hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit agsm.ca.

• Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023.

• Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. Entering the museum is like stepping back in time to the 1880s, as you’ll notice the Victorian stylings throughout the home, which is complete with a spacious coach house. As of Sept. 1, we are closed for the season. Tours may be arranged by appointment by calling 204-748-1659 for more information. Admission prices: $5 adults; $2 school-aged children.

• Oct. 26 — The Western Manitoba Regional Library presents Late Night at the Library! Come and join us at the Brandon Downtown Public Library branch (Unit 1, 710 Rosser Ave.) for an evening of live music, trivia, local food and drinks. This is a fundraising event to help us grow our spaces and offerings. Cocktail reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $40 per person. • Oct. 26 — The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Moose Jaw Warriors at Westoba Place at 7 p.m. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office.

• Oct. 27 — City of Brandon Parks and Recreation is hosting a Spooky Roller Disco at the Sportsplex Arena ( 30 Knowlton Dr.) from 7 to 9 p.m. Skate rentals are available courtesy of the Wheat City Roller Derby League. Pre-booking of the skates open at noon. Limited quantity and sizes available and can be reserved for a maximum of 50 minutes. • Oct. 28 — Women in Harmony Barbershop Chorus is hosting their annual show at Knox United Church (451 18th St.) at 2 p.m. The show entitled “Thank You for the Music,” will feature the chorus and their special guest ensemble The Assiniboine Chorus from Winnipeg, under the direction of Rachel Cameron. The Women in Harmony chorus is under the direction of Naomi Russell and its members hail from Brandon, Rapid City and Souris. The current members will invite alumni to join them at the end of the afternoon in singing “Friends.” Rainbow raffle and door prize. • Oct. 28 — Giiwe Media presents Gathering of Creations Market at the Riverbank Discovery Centre (545 Conservation Dr.) from noon to 4 p.m. Come and support Indigenous artisans and learn from Indigenous storytellers about their work, inspirations, businesses, culture and much more.

• Oct. 28 — Fall Carnival is back at Bethel Brandon (440 Richmond Ave.) from 6 to 8 p.m. This family-friendly event includes carnival games, bouncy castle, hot dogs, tons of candy, cotton candy and popcorn. Free event. For more information, call 204-727-0639.

• Oct. 28 — A Halloween Howl will take place at the Brandon Univerisity’s Harvest Hall from 2 to 4 p.m. People of all ages are welcome to join with their Halloween costumes and stop by to enjoy a hotdog, drink and bag of chips for a $5 donation. There will be prizes for best costumes in three different age categories as well as a prize for best carved pumpkin. Free candy for those in costume! Accepting unwrapped toys, food and cash donations. Proceeds from the Halloween Howl will go towards the Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner.

• Nov. 10 — The Brandon University Bobcats basketball teams take on Thompson Rivers University at the Healthy Living Centre (2010 Louise Ave.) On Nov. 10, the women’s game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. On Nov. 11, the women’s game tips off at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.
