Hey there, time traveller!

Zombies will take over Brandon on Sunday afternoon, and it’s not too late to plan a deadly costume and take part, said the event’s organizer.
This will be the 14th annual Zombie Walk fundraiser, held in Stanley Park from 1 to 4 p.m., which will include the walking dead who will stagger their way through the streets and avenues in and around the park.
It all began as a fun way to celebrate Halloween and support a local charity that helps animals, said coordinator Angel Robbins.
“I’ve been helping to organize the Zombie Walk for the last six of the 14 years, so it wasn’t my idea, but even before I came on board, I loved it. I loved seeing the community get together and support an amazing cause,” Robbins said. “And it doesn’t hurt to have fun while doing it,” she added with a smile.
This year, the funds will go to Cats TNR & Rescue, servicing cats in the Neepawa area.
“My partner and I were told about Cats TNR, so we chatted with them and felt like they aligned with what we believe a rescue should be that truly has the cats’ best interest at heart,” Robbins said.
Cats TNR & Rescue was founded in 2012, when homeless cats were seen living at a local landfill. The volunteers use a trap, neuter, and return program, and then find foster homes and eventual adoption options for the cats, according to the charity’s website.
The group, governed by a board of directors, has a small shelter and is always looking for funds to cover veterinary costs for vaccines, worming and the mandatory spay or neuter procedure.
“Last year we raised more than $500 for our animal charity, so we’re hoping to surpass that this year,” Robbins said.
The Zombie Walk route will begin at Princess Park and head west to 18th Street, turn south to Victoria Avenue, and east to 10th Street.
From 10th Street, the zombies will turn north for Rosser Avenue, where they’ll go west to 15th Street, and then south – back to Stanley Park.
There will be lots to do at the park, Robbins said, before, during and after the walk, including a barbecue, face painting, a chance to win a gift card from Chez Angela, and music by Brandon’s Bounce 96.1 FM.
“There is also a game of chase the ace, with the possibility of both the winner and the cat rescue receiving $500. Sponsors are so important to us, and they include Peak Performance & Athletics, Giant Tiger, Superstore, and Heritage Co-op.”
The event is free to attend, and spectators are welcome as are people’s pets.
There will be donation boxes at the park for those who wish to give cash or cat-care items.
