As Halloween approaches, residents in Brandon are transforming their homes into frightful yet delightful displays of scary and cute Halloween decorations. From eerie ghosts to charming pumpkins, these decorations are igniting the Halloween spirit in the local community.
“I have been doing the Halloween decoration for over 30 years because I have been here for that long,” resident Rilla Dunkley told the Sun. “My love for Halloween motivates me to do this year after year, and the children love it.
The long-time resident of 545 23rd Street explained that she doesn’t have to spend too much, as she keeps track of decoration. “I recycle a lot of stuff and then I just change it up every year.”

“We moved into this house about three years ago and we have been decorating the house in preparation for the annual tradition,” homeowner Angela O’Connell (1135 Sycamore Drive) told the Sun. “I just love Halloween. I love seeing the joy in the children’s faces. Now, sometimes it’s scary for the little ones, but some of them really, really like it.”
Laurie Sedgwick, who lives at 2227 Lyndale Drive, is another enthusiast of the tradition. She has been decorating her home for about three years and continues to expand her collection of Halloween decor.
“It’s fun. Really. Yes, it is. The kids love it except last year, a couple of them were crying because all these things make noise,” Sedgwick said. “It’s nice to enjoy each season as they come.”
Another resident Debbie Wasilka of 1135 First Street said she has been adding Halloween charm to her home for her grandkids.
“I have been doing this for about seven years and my grandkids love it and look forward to it,” Wasilka told the Sun. “Kids in the daycare across the street also love it. We have one at Christmas time too.”

Laurie Sedgwick's residence is at 2227 Lyndale Drive.
For O’Connell, Sedgwick, Wasilka, and many other passionate decorators in Brandon, Halloween is about more than just dressing up and going trick-or-treating. It’s about creating memorable experiences for the community, fostering a sense of togetherness, and spreading joy during this enchanting holiday season.
As we strolled through the neighbourhoods in Brandon, we encountered a range of Halloween decorations, from terrifying tombstones to whimsical witches and everything in between. The streets were adorned with both scary and cute displays that created a mesmerizing atmosphere for all to enjoy.
The residents of Brandon are not only celebrating Halloween for themselves but also spreading the holiday spirit throughout the community. These decorations bring smiles to the faces of children and adults alike.
As Halloween Day, October 31, draws nearer, the homes of Brandon continue to dazzle with their spooky and cute decorations, igniting the spirit of Halloween throughout the city.
