Cree Métis Grandmother Deborah Tacan will reflect on how to create safe and open spaces for people to come together to talk in a BU Teachings House event on Tuesday at 12:40 p.m., in He Oyate Tawapi Ceremony Room in the Health Studies complex. The event is open to everyone, and coffee, tea and bannock will be provided.
The French conversational group, facilitated by the Department of Francophone Studies and Languages, will meet at the Downtown Public Library on Wednesday, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Join us to practice your French with a supportive and informal group. The session is free, and all levels are welcome. The French conversational group will also meet on Nov. 15.
Derrek Eberts of BU will talk about the impacts of COVID-19 on outdoor recreation and tourism in a Science Seminar Series event on Friday at 2:30 p.m., in Room 4-47 of the Brodie building. His talk will include observations from Manitoba and Mexico. The talk will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.
The BU Applied Disaster and Emergency Studies program, in partnership with the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg, will host a two-day workshop on preparing future generations for climate change-related emergencies and disasters on Friday and Saturday in the Louis Riel Room. The School of Music Pro Series welcomes the New Orford String Quartet for a performance on Friday at 7:30 p.m., in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. The New Orford String Quartet has received critical acclaim, including two Opus Awards for concert of the year, and a 2017 JUNO Award for best classical album. Tickets are $20 for adults and seniors, and free for BU students and Conservatory students accompanied by a paid parent.
The Bobcats volleyball teams host the University of Manitoba Bisons this weekend. The women will begin at 6 p.m., on Friday, with the men following at 7:45 p.m. On Saturday, the women will begin at 5 p.m., with the men at 6:45 p.m. The Bobcat basketball teams open their season by visiting the Bisons in Winnipeg, with games taking place on Thursday and Friday evenings.
An aspiring writer hesitantly accompanies her equally reluctant younger sister on vacation with their deliriously happy parents in Something You Said Last Night, showing at the Evans Theatre on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Show times are at 7:30 p.m., and admission is $6.
The Brandon University Alumni Association is starting a bi-weekly Dungeons & Dragons game on Sunday, Nov. 4 at I want that Stuff. There is a $5 table fee and limited spots are available. Email Alumni@BrandonU.ca to register.

ASSINIBOINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association will hold a Halloween Food Drive from Oct. 24 to 31, with the help of Heritage Co-op. There will be a bin outside of the ACCSA’s office where you can donate non-perishable items. Additionally, Hunger Bags can be purchased through Heritage Co-op to be donated to the ACCSA, to provide further donations to Samaritan House.
The ACC Students’ Association has moved to a new temporary office. You can find the ACCSA team in room 221 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
