The Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority has honoured Assiniboine Community College Dean of Nursing Suzanne Nicolas with the Community Leadership Award.
The recognition, according to IERHA, comes as a testament to Nicolas’ pivotal role in the development and expansion of Assiniboine’s Practical Nursing program.
“Since 2010, Assiniboine has offered the Licensed Practical Nursing program over 10 times in the Interlake-Eastern region, spanning locations such as Ashern, Selkirk, Pine Falls, and Arborg,” IERHA chief executive officer Marion Ellis said in a statement issued on Thursday. “This award is a recognition of Suzanne Nicolas’s unwavering commitment to providing locally accessible education opportunities within the region.”

Since joining Assiniboine in 2018, Nicolas has played a crucial role in establishing the School of Nursing at Assiniboine and has been at the forefront of the significant expansion of Practical Nursing programs across Manitoba, the statement said.
“Assiniboine’s Practical Nursing program has been a crucial pillar in supporting the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority’s efforts to meet their evolving needs,” it stated. “A recent example of this commitment was the hosting of a rural rotating Practical Nursing site in Arborg, with intakes in January 2021 and September 2022.”
“I am truly honoured to receive this award. It underscores the importance of nursing to our province and highlights Assiniboine’s continued leadership in delivering quality nursing education,” Nicolas said.
“Our graduates are making a difference in their communities, contributing to the overall health of their regions, and are dedicated to enhancing health-care outcomes in Manitoba. This award is a reflection of their collective efforts, and I am privileged to celebrate this achievement.”
