Hey there, time traveller!

The House of Hex drag performers will return to Lady of the Lake next month for their Winter Wonderland Show, but tickets are already gone.
“It’s the first time that we’ve actually had a show sell out that quickly in Brandon. And someone from (Lady of the Lake) shared with me that it’s one of their fastest-selling shows as well. So that’s exciting,” said Flora Hex, mother of the House of Hex and one of the performers.
“I’m very pleased that there is enough interest in Brandon for people to choose to come. I’m a person that believes in creating understanding through transparency in the most constructive way.”

Winter Wonderland is open to teens as well as adults. Hex said the group will perform holiday songs, putting their own creative spin on them.
Hex makes her own intricate costumes for each performance and said there will be many costume changes during the show. Each drag performer will know what songs the others are performing, but they haven’t rehearsed together, which Hex said makes for a more fun and exciting show for the audience and the performers. She added this will be the first show for a few of the drag performers.
The venue at Lady of the Lake allows for a more diverse age group in attendance, which Hex said helps foster inclusivity and understanding among the audience.
“(The show) does give people opportunities to come and gain some exposure,” Hex explained Friday. “But it’s also mainly for the ability to create space for people because when I started doing drag, that was my whole purpose.
“I try my best to have events that are all ages and are teen-friendly, so they can be part of that as well. I think some people when they think of drag, they assume that it’s something that happens at a bar at 11 o’clock at night, which it does. That’s part of it and still very valuable. But one of the main roles for me and drag is to allow people the opportunity to feel confident to be who they are, in whatever form that takes.”
Hex said the last drag performance for the group was in October and each performance usually includes lip-syncing, comedy, dancing, acting and singing. And beautiful costumes.
“That’s kind of the beauty of drag … that it is a very diverse art form. And it touches on many other art forms, like interpretive dance, singing, acting, visual art — all of those elements are included in drag. So that’s kind of the fun part of when you’re going to a drag show.”
