Hey there, time traveller!

When the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Holiday Train came through Neepawa on Monday, it brought more than Christmas cheer. The holiday train program also donated $3,500 for the Salvation Army Food Bank.
“Please, if you can, give generously,” said Amanda Naughton-Gale, community ministries director at the Salvation Army in Neepawa, located 76 kilometres northeast of Brandon. “All this money is … going to straight towards our community.”
Every year, the train program chugs across Canada and the United States in the name of raising money and food donations for food banks in the communities it stops in. Beginning in Montreal this year in November, the 1,000-ft. train — made up of 14 cars festooned with LED lights and holiday decorations — made stops in Minnedosa, Neepawa and Shoal Lake on Monday.

Many of the crowd that had gathered at the railway at Mountain Avenue and Currie Avenue brought donations for the food bank. Students from Neepawa Middle School and their teachers also attended the event, where they enjoyed free hot chocolate handed out by staff from the Salvation Army and a musical performance by the Anyway Gang, comprised of Sam Roberts, Chris Murphy, Menno Versteeg and Dave Monks.
Since it first began in 1999, the holiday train program has been able to raise more than $22.5 million and more than five million pounds of food for food banks across Canada and the U.S., the company’s website states.
More coverage of the Holiday Train’s stop in Neepawa will appear in the Dec. 14 edition of Westman This Week.
