A local Facebook group holding a raffle to raise money for Christmas hampers is preparing for a second round after the winner of the first generously donated their prize back to organizers.

People of Brandon administrator and head elf Amber Burchart told the Sun on Wednesday that round two of the raffle for a pair of two-kilogram bags of Rogers white granulated sugar is now on and scheduled to end on Monday, Dec. 11 at 9 p.m.

The group is calling the event the “sugar waffle” in order to skirt Facebook’s rules preventing gambling on the platform. Last year, the group raised $485 by raffling off bags of Bugles, a cone-shaped corn snack that had been discontinued in Canada earlier in the year.

Workers at the Rogers factory in Vancouver are currently on strike, making the sweet stuff hard to find on grocery shelves.

So far, this year’s raffle has raised $85. All proceeds will be split evenly between Brandon and Westman Christmas Cheer and the Facebook group’s efforts to assemble Christmas hampers for those in need.

One entry in the raffle can be purchased for $2, while a $5 contribution gets you three spots in the draw.

Entries in the raffle can be obtained by commenting on the pinned post about the contest with the number of entries you’re purchasing.

Once organizers have acknowledged your post, entrants should e-transfer the appropriate amount to pobhhd@hotmail.com with “I love waffles” written in the security question field and “withsyrup” as the answer.

The group is also collecting donations of food, cash and toys for its holiday hampers. Another pinned post in the group contains information on what donations are still needed and how they can be delivered to organizers.
