Assault
A 37-year-old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting his spouse on Monday morning.
The 38-year-old woman reported to police that she was previously assaulted by her spouse.
The man was arrested and charged with assault.
Urinating in public leads to arrest
A 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly having multiple weapons after police first caught him urinating on Rosser Avenue Monday evening.
Police conducted a pedestrian stop in the 700 block of Rosser Avenue after they saw a man urinating. Police then found the man allegedly in possession of an axe, hammer, and knife.
He will appear in court on Feb. 22 on a charge of possession of a weapon.
BPS running checkstops this holiday season
Drivers should be prepared for checkstops by the Brandon Police Service this month.
BPS says officers will be conducting checkstops in the community during the holiday season. The purpose of the checks will be to target individuals who are driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said in a news release.
In an email to the Sun, Const. Jason Medwechuk said the force’s checkstops are sponsored in partnership with MPI. He said the locations of the stops will vary and that the number of check stops is not predetermined.
“The initiative is designed to deter motorists from impaired driving by drug or alcohol, while maintaining an increased police presence on roads during the holiday season,” Medwechuk said.
Police remind the community to make arrangements for a safe way home, which could include staying over at a friend’s house, getting a ride with a designated driver, taking public transit, calling a cab, or using Operation Red Nose.
