Brandon University has opened an audio-video recording studio valued at $100,000 to showcase research, faculty endeavours and student achievements.
The Knowledge Mobilization Suite, equipped to facilitate podcasts, immersive videos and livestreaming, is set to revolutionize the dissemination of academic work and campus creativity.
“Brandon University is home to inspiring people who are doing innovative and inspiring things, but it’s not always been easy to share our work as widely as it deserves,” BU’s associate vice-president (research) Heather Duncan. “This new room is filled with the right equipment to help us spread the word about our latest research findings, our community’s creativity and our students’ academic achievements.”

He said one corner housed a podcast recording studio, accommodating at least four participants for both audio and video recordings, with additional virtual participation options. Another area featured a flexible setup, allowing for broadcasts or seminar-style discussions.
However, the star attraction was a 20-foot green screen, enabling visitors to virtually transport themselves against diverse BU backdrops or any conceivable environment, from exotic beaches to lunar landscapes.
BU marketing and communications director Grant Hamilton said the green screen can be used for virtual tours at the touch of a button or for delivering immersive research talks.
The suite boasts top-tier equipment, including three high-definition cameras — one shooting in 4K — and multiple professional microphones and audio inputs. Advanced lighting arrangements, a teleprompter for longer speeches, and a professional Tricaster media production system form the nucleus of the room.
Situated in the Faculty of Education, Room 017, the Knowledge Mobilization Suite is available for booking by campus members. Technical assistance and training are provided by the Office of Research Services and the Department of Marketing and Communications.
