RCMP make drug trafficking arrest
Two people are facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop by RCMP on Ebb and Flow First Nation on Wednesday.
According to RCMP, around 10:40 a.m., Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle on the First Nation, but the vehicle did not stop.
The vehicle went off the road and entered some brush off Provincial Road 462, north of Plumas. Three suspects allegedly ran into the bush and hid.
Two suspects were located and arrested, but it took the work of RCMP officers from Amaranth, Neepawa, the Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Unit and a police dog to track and locate the third suspect. Police say when he was finally located, the suspect refused to comply with police commands and was apprehended with the assistance of the police dog, named Marook.
A search of the suspect resulted in the seizure of more than $4,000 in cash.
A bag believed to belong to the suspects was found near the vehicle and contained more than 900 grams of methamphetamine, 223 grams of cocaine and 30 grams of crack cocaine.
A 22-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man are facing drug trafficking and resisting arrest charges. They will appear in court in Dauphin on Feb. 24.
Edward Sutherland, 33, was also charged with drug trafficking and charges for fleeing from police and resisting arrest. He was remanded into custody.
Westoba Place hosts Stars on Ice
Figuring skating fans are in for a treat this Sunday, when Olympian Elvis Stojko and other top skaters perform in Brandon.
The Stars on Ice show — a special holiday edition — is coming to Westoba Place in the Keystone Centre. The show begins at 5 p.m.
Stojko won’t be the only star in attendance. Behind the scenes, famed figure skater Kurt Browning is serving as the director and choreographer for this season’s Stars on Ice show.
Joining Stojko on ice are Canadian and international skaters including Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, Keegan Messing, Alex Kneirim, Brandon Frazier, Satoko Miyahara, Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro and Elladj Balde.
